About the position

The purpose of the role is to shape and safeguard the activities of Nel ASA and its subsidiaries towards governments, politicians, public authorities and other public sector stakeholders, who influence Nel’s regulatory environment, and to provide Nel’s divisions with function specific support related to Government Affairs activities and public funding, focusing on the EU / EEA.

The Market Development & Public Affairs function targets a small, dedicated team ensuring Nel is perceived as a proactive player in developing the regulatory framework for renewable Hydrogen.

Responsibilities

The Head of EU Affairs reports to the Director Market Development and Public Affairs. The team Market development and Public Affairs is responsible for the overall governance of the public affairs activities in Nel to ensure professionalism and consistency through industry associations or directly in making Nel’s requirements and views known to political and authority stakeholders, including:

  • Develop the Head of EU Affairs function in Brussels.
  • Support further the development of Nel’s overall public affairs strategy.
  • Develop Nel positions and requests in close collaboration with relevant divisions.
  • Identify the risks regarding public policies that negatively or positively impact the operations.
  • Contribute to the governance of strategic actions, follow-up of government bodies and political stakeholders to position Nel and secure favourable, stable and predictable framework conditions for Nel globally.
  • Coordinate Nel’s interest in strategic industry associations and overseeing, managing and ensuring adequate controls and governance.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with strategic political stakeholders and government officials, including regulatory agencies, public bodies, embassies or consulates, associations and institutions.

Qualifications

Education

Master preferably with a focus on public or political affairs, policy development.

  • Fluent in English with proficiency in writing and verbal communication
  • Good analytical skills
  • Very good communication skills
  • Proactive and result oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Outgoing and trustworthy
  • Ability to implement and deliver on schedule
  • Good at working with remote teams and relationships
  • Agile and flexible
  • Ability to quickly adapt in / to different cultures

Preferred skills and abilities

  • Additional language is a plus
  • Relevant sector experience is a plus (energy, renewables, Hydrogen, Gas) 

Competencies

  • Min 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience from policy writing and influencing
  • Existing network with relevant European authorities in Brussels
