About the position

An immediate opportunity exists for a qualified candidate with demonstrated project management experience and a proven track record with managing complex projects related to automation of precision manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be excited about automation of assembly and material conversion processes and take pride in deploying automated systems from the initial project kickoff through the achievement of fully autonomous operations. The Project Manager will lead deployment projects by coordinating activities with site management, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers. They will be responsible for establishing project plans, managing the project, reporting on project status, and resolving issues. The candidate will balance business needs with technical constraints, striving to find the right solution for each process while maintaining a strong focus on standards, scalability, and supportability. The role will require a strong blend of technical and business acumen to drive the design, commissioning, and validation of automation solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage internal automation solutions for component fabrication and assembly processes, overseeing all aspects of the solution deployment including assessment of facility needs
  • Work with internal team to develop technical specifications, oversee suppliers, identify viable automation options, monitor the design & build of custom automation equipment, and direct change of path from original concept as needed
  • Provide overall management of projects from concept to completion including planning, estimating, project controls, risk management, procurement, site integration, and closeout
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the successful execution of projects
  • Manage change control and communicate impact in project scope, identify issues, and devise contingency plans
  • Oversee internal project performance (Key Performance Indicators), staffing needs, contract support, risk management (including safety concerns), and change management
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, and make tradeoffs while balancing business needs with technical constraints
  • Adhere to project management policies and procedures, establish project controls, and implement the project execution plan
  • Foster a culture focused on transparency, speed of decision-making, and a synchronized partnership within teams
  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration, and commitment across multiple disparate groups with competing priorities
  • Assist with internal process development and standardization for deployments and, where possible, proactively recognize and drive opportunities to simplify processes
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Travel to supplier locations could be required

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited university.

Required skills and abilities

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive Project Management experience, including 5 or more years of experience managing complex automation projects
  • Solid knowledge of the tools and elements of project management, exceptionally strong influencing skills
  • Ability to successfully manage cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders and varying levels of management
  • Prior technical experience working automation/robotics for both mechanical assembly, material synthesis processes, and coating processes
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating dynamic meetings and coordinating among high energy participants to direct toward productive results
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate project information to any level within the company.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking capabilities
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including MS Project
  • Capable of working well in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Able to travel (<10%) as needed

Preferred skills and abilities

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
  • Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus
