Fueling the future

Do your kids really know what you do all day at work? After a sweet-fueled Saturday at Herning in Denmark, Nel’s employees can be surer than most that the young people in their lives have a pretty good idea. 

Nel opened up its fueling-station manufacturing site to show what could well be the next generation of hydrogen-industry professionals how fuel cells work, and where fueling stations fit into the growing demand for hydrogen-fueling infrastructure.

The smiles say it all

“We are all proud of our work at Herning. We know that we are doing our bit for the green transition, and we think it’s important to give colleagues the chance to share that pride with their family and closest friends. The smiles in the photos say it all,” says Robert Borin, the head of Nel’s Fueling division.

The day also marked the official opening of a new fueling station at the Herning site. This is the seventh to be operational in Denmark and, while it will primarily be used by Nel company cars, it will also be available for public use. The fueling station, operated by Everfuel, was funded by H2ME-2 project, part of the European Union’s Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking initiative, which receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research. 

This funding stream has also supported the purchase of Nel’s two hydrogen cars, along with taxis operated by Aarhus Taxi. Denmark’s eighth hydrogen-fueling station, also operated by Everfuel, will open in Aarhus later this year. 

This project has received funding from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (now Clean Hydrogen Partnership) under Grant Agreement No 671438 & No 700350. This Joint Undertaking receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research.
