Nel ASA: Participates in consortium for Alstom hydrogen train initiative in Germany

(Oslo, 2 October 2018) Nel ASA (OSE: NEL) announced today the participation in H2-Consortium Westküste in Germany, being selected as a preferred partner of Alstom for the potential deployment of a 20MW electrolyzer and associated fueling equipment, with sufficient capacity to refuel a complete fleet of hydrogen trains.

“We are proud to announce that H2-Consortium Westküste has been selected as a preferred partner for Alstom in the potential development of zero-emission trains for green hydrogen in Schleswig-Holstein. Yesterday's test trial of the Alstom Coradia iLint hydrogen train between Neumünster and Kiel showcases the potential for green hydrogen within heavy duty transportation and Germany’s dedication to be in the forefront of the development, “says Jon André Løkke, CEO of Nel.

The Alstom Coradia iLint hydrogen train conducted a demonstration drive between Neumünster and Kiel with participation of Minister of Transport Dr. Bernd Buchholz on 1st of October 2018. H2-Consortium Westküste, which in addition to Nel consists of Entwicklungsagentur Region Heide, GP Joule, IPP Projects and EDF, is the preferred partner of Alstom for the development of the megawatt scale electrolysis and fueling equipment, which will have the capacity to refuel a complete fleet of hydrogen trains in Schleswig-Holstein, as well as other heavy duty vehicles in the region. The consortium is currently cooperating closely with Alstom on a tender for zero-emission trains, which will be decided at the beginning of 2019, and potential deployment from 2021.
