Glencore’s second electrolyser from Nel

Play Video
A new hydrogen production plant, featuring a second electrolyser from Nel, has been installed at Glencore Nickel’s facility in Kristiansand.

In this video, Nils G. Gjelsten CEO at Nikkelverk, discusses Nel’s technology, as well as the ways in which nickel is always present in our everyday lives.

"Nel's technology is robust, reliable, and long-tested. It's an easy choice for us due to its energy efficiency and our familiarity with its operation."

Hydrogen, produced by Nel’s electrolyser at the facility, is not only used in the refining and production of nickel but also has wider applications, such as in the production of hydrochloric acid, a process that has been integral to the facility’s operations.

A Century of Nickel production

From the cutlery we use to the mobile phones and laptops that keep us connected, nickel is always present, yet often overlooked. Since its inception in 1910, the Nikkelverk facility has not only supported the local community but has also played an important role in global industries.

"Hydrogen is an important input factor in our processes and very high reliability is required. Nikkelverk has produced Hydrogen for internal use for more than 60 years. We are pleased to continue a long relationship with Nel and their well proven and reliable alkaline electrolysers."
