EU decarbonisation and industrial policies hand in hand

Summary

The European Green Deal was the European Union’s (EU) centre-piece and main policy driver over the past 5 years. Following, the European Elections of May 2024, the Green Deal is still expected to guide the work of the EU, however many stakeholders are shifting their focus to topics such as the promotion of an EU industrial policy and securing Europe’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Implementation of the Green Deal remains vital for the uptake of renewable hydrogen and electrolysers. For the upcoming EU mandate and over the next 5 years, EU lawmakers should ensure that EU decarbonisation and industrial policies go hand in hand, in order to kick start the renewable hydrogen economy, promote jobs in Europe and boost EU clean tech manufacturing.
