Inside Herøya: Nel’s first pressurized alkaline production line

Mats Bohman, VP Alkaline Operations at Nel, takes us onto the floor at Herøya, Norway, where our first production line for next-generation pressurized alkaline electrolysers is taking shape.

The fully automated line is being built in two steps: 500 MW of annual capacity by the end of 2026, then an upgrade to 1 GW during 2027. The line is supported by the EU Innovation Fund and will produce the PA-Series, our modular, factory-built pressurized alkaline system.
